Tuesday Lowdown- Earth Day
issue no. 17
It’s Earth Day and a great time of year to assess what you’re doing around your home. Yes, it’s meant to save the planet but that doesn’t mean you can’t save money at the same time!

🏡Home Energy Evaluation⚡️

I mentioned this a few months back, but with Earth Day here, it’s worth repeating: a home energy evaluation can reveal where your home is wasting energy — and how to affordably fix it. From sealing air leaks to recommending smart thermostats, evaluations often lead to 10–30% savings on utility bills. Energize CT can offer rebates to offset the costs if you decide to make some upgrades.
It’s a simple, affordable step with real impact. When we had our’s done, the technicians sealed drafts with spray foam, installed weatherstripping, and replaced a bunch of lightbulbs for free after the $75 cost of the audit. What they do changes over time but it is well worth the cost.
🧹Cleaning Savings🔌 Part 1

AI is very bad at generating images of Dryer Vent Cleaning
I’ve been planning this section for a couple weeks and can’t trim it down into something small to read. I’ve found five cleaning maintenance tasks that can dramatically save on energy expenses. Dryer Vent Lint Removal, Refrigerator Coil Dusting, Oven Interior Degreasing, Air Conditioner Filter Cleaning, and Baseboard Heater Dusting. I’ll tackle one each week.
Dryer vent cleaning removes lint buildup from your dryer’s ductwork so air can flow freely. That means shorter drying times—up to 30% faster per load—and roughly $200–$300 in annual energy savings, plus a lower risk of dryer fires.
To do it yourself, start by unplugging the dryer and pulling it away from the wall. Disconnect the flexible vent hose and use a long, flexible brush or vacuum attachment to sweep out lint from both the hose and the duct opening in the wall. Be sure to clear any lint trapped behind the dryer cabinet where the hose connects. While you’re at it, brush and vacuum the whole area to remove lint, dust, and pick up all those socks you’ve been missing.
Next, check the exterior vent outlet on your home to make sure the flap opens fully and is free of debris. Reattach the hose, push the dryer back into place, plug it in, and run a short cycle to verify strong airflow. Clean your dryer vent at least once per year to keep it running safely and efficiently.
We’re running a special at Simply Pure Home Cleaners and adding in a yearly dryer vent cleaning to our weekly or biweekly cleaning clients! Let us know if you’re interested!
🍣Parkville Market🧋

We stopped at Parkville Market for dinner after soccer practice last week. It had been a while and was nice to see it fairly busy late on a Wednesday evening. They have a little bit of everything here. With 22 restaurants represented, you don’t have to wait too long before your food is ready. The best part about it is the variety. Laura wanted sushi but I was in the mood for chicken. We both had some tres-leches for dessert.

There is plenty of seating on the second level if the tables on the main level fill up. There are three bars onsite as well. Give it a try if you haven’t!
